Viral Marketing, done right By Marisa | June 3rd, 2006

Why? Because it’s FUNNY! It’s oddball, goofy, easy to understand funny. It’s low production values, it’s one funny-looking white dude unselfconsciously doing goofy dances to greatest hits for no damn good reason, it’s frickin funny. At the end of the video: replay - or send to a friend. Viral.

This is what successful viral campaigns are made of.

But look at what else he’s doing right. He’s got his own website, for one. His url is easy to say and remember. It’s simple and unobtrusive, and if all you want to do is watch his video, the website will not stand in your way. The video’s front and center.

But there are things to do on the website that entice you to dig further. He’s got calls to action: book me for an event - write a story about me - submit a new dance - join my mailing list - send the video to a friend - buy some schwag - take a quiz - read the guestbook - leave a comment.

I even like his cheesy little border of an “audience.” What’s he selling? Himself! His personality. He’s some kind of a inspirational comedian. And you think, well dang, he made this funny video, maybe he’s a funny comedian! Let me call him up. Brilliant.

  1. Has anyone out there heard about WideCircles.com. It seems like a way better service then wasting money on PPC. Apparently they are using refering websites ( forums, blogs, wiki, etc. ) and have a viral word of mouth distributed approach to it. My friend told me he got around 100 visits from single post which cost him $0.40c. I am going to give them a try today . In case you are intrested here is it. http://widecircles.com?s=imt1
