Tidbits from Jakob Nielsen By Marisa | March 20th, 2006
The following snippets came from Jakob Nielsen’s latest Alertbox:Growing a Business Website: Fix the Basics First (Jakob Nielsen’s Alertbox)
(If you don’t know and love JN, you should. One of the ugliest sites in the world, chock-full of stuff YOU NEED TO KNOW.
Summary:
Offering clear content, simple navigation, and answers to customer questions have the biggest impact on business value. Advanced technology matters much less.
Among his morsels of excellent advice (paraphrased)
- Communicate clearly
- Give them what they want
- Show them how to find it
Content rules. Plainspoken words and big, clean photos. Clear photos move more products.
Don’t use technology for it’s own sake. You are not the user and the user could care less about your fixation with fancy technology. They want to get a job done, and done quickly so they can get back to their lives. Get out of their way and let them do it!

Hey! time for some shameless self-promotion and shout-outs to my peeps.
Well, if you've read this far, why not? This blog runs on Kick-ass Wordpress, the best blog software in the world using the Crimson Milk theme by Andrew Sutherland because Marisa is just way too lazy to make her own. Did you realize you can move stuff around? Try it. It's Ajax-a-licious. Grab something with your mouse and scootch it wherever you want it to be.Technorati thinks I'm cool. You should too.
