Q’sOTD: What is Design? What is Usability? By Marisa | February 7th, 2006
Great quotes from Sigia, which is a very academic mailing list devoted to user-centered design, usability and information architecture. They’d all crap their panties if they saw I didn’t capitalize any of those terms. Shnort!
“Design is doing for a dime what anyone can do for a dollar.”
I like that one a lot. It encapsulates what we do here at YVOD, I think.
“Design is the art and science of balancing the needs of the client and the user.”
Certainly can’t say that one any better.
“Usability people take what’s given to them and *analyze* it
against a given benchmark; designers *synthesize* various considerations into a coherent whole.”
That one’s a little more obscure and hard to get my head around, especially since I often have both of those roles. What does it mean to you? Comments are open (you have to hand over your email address so I know you’re not using my blog to hawk your stupid texas-hold-em site or something.) If you don’t want to do that, use my shoutbox. It’s over there on your right.
Thanks to Ziya, Bill and the whole obnoxious but lovable Sigia crew for giving me my daily brain-sharpeners. (mental image of marisa poking curly head into too-small pencil sharpener)

Hey! time for some shameless self-promotion and shout-outs to my peeps.
Well, if you've read this far, why not? This blog runs on Kick-ass Wordpress, the best blog software in the world using the Crimson Milk theme by Andrew Sutherland because Marisa is just way too lazy to make her own. Did you realize you can move stuff around? Try it. It's Ajax-a-licious. Grab something with your mouse and scootch it wherever you want it to be.Technorati thinks I'm cool. You should too.
