Google Analytics: Good for you? By Marisa | December 7th, 2005

I’m a Googlehead, just like everybody else, and a research fiend, so of course I was so excited about the new Google Analytics thing. What? Free? Analytics? From GOOGLE? Oh hell yea. Etc. So I installed it on two of my clients’ sites and waited for the googly goodness to come rolling in. Well, they of course underestimated the enormous popularity of such an offering and had some initial capacity hiccups, but I can’t hate them for being so beautiful that their dance card was full before they even arrived at the dance. So I patiently waited for my song to play, and went in today to check and see what they’ve got for me.

Oh. My. God.

I about fell out of my chair. Here. You see for yourself:

Googlicious

Pretty graphs. I’m a sucker for pretty graphs, I’ll admit it any day of the week. But a worldwide map with dots on it?? Swooon… We use another, open-source, server-side stats application. You know what they give me for “user locations?” a big long stack of IP addresses. What the heck am I supposed to do with that?? A manual reverse-lookup for each and every one, plot it on a map, etc.? Google did it for me. Because they love me so much.

Sigh…

Is it really possible to be in love with a mega-corporation?
